I'm sure you've seen these commercials on TV for this stuff. I was at a gas station on Monday as part of a 120 mile trip to Richloam on my enduro bike and while buying a banana, I saw a bottle of 5 Hour Energy and thought I'd give it a try. I paid $1.99 for one small bottle. It claims to have the equivalent of 1 cup of coffee and a bunch of vitamins. I drank 1/2 of it and went on my way. Within 1/2 hour I started getting a headache. I thought it was from the glare as it was a sunny day. I drank the rest of it. 1/2 hour after that my head started pounding.

After 2 hours, it was time to ride home and my head hurt so bad I could hardly stand the wind turbulence from my windshield. I took it off and put it in my bag. In short, I got the worst migraine headache of my life that took 4 hours to go away. It was a hard ride home but I made it. I had to lay on the couch for a few hours after taking some Excedrin.

So my advice is this, if you need an extra kick from a drink, just buy Diet Pepsi Max. It's a lot cheaper and does the same thing, and for me, it doesn't give me massive headaches.

it would be wise to know exactly what is in the 5-hour bottle of poison so that you can avoid ingesting that in the future. The only thing that I know for a fact gives me migraines is MSG, monosodium glutamate. That crap is used as a "flavor enhancer". I wonder if 5-hour poison has that in it.  sad4 sad4

Ingredients….150% Niacin! This could have been a lot worse!

Excerpts from WebMD: Side effects reported with Niacin include pruritus, hyperpigmentation, rash, acanthosis nigricans, nausea, diarrhea, aggravation of peptic ulcers, hypotension and atrial fibrillation. Hypotension refers to low blood pressure. Low blood pressure is associated with certain symptoms, including headaches.

How could it have been worse? It could have been the diarrhea symptom on your long ride.

Work is slow today…

All that crap should be banned from TV and the stores. Same with Red Bull and those energy drinks. Nothing but liquid Heart Attack in the making.

I am sure you will find it amusing that a google ad for 5-hour poison appeared in the margin when I was reading this last post.  Undecided  I did not click on it. Or maybe I should have clicked on it 500000000 times. Grin

8333% of B12!

That plus all the other stuff seems like an overdose of some nasty shit.

I'm never touching the stuff again.

Strange, I've never had any of the problems any of you guys are explaining. I use this from time to time cramming for tests or whenever I need to perk up for a bit and it works pretty well, the only downside to it is every flavor tastes like shit through and through.

Another drink called redline however did jack me up pretty bad, and even worse is yet another called spike shooter.

I've settled on Pepsi Max once in awhile. It's pretty good!
