Michael Vick, recently reinstated to the NFL after being freed from federal prison after a dogfighting-related conviction, has signed a two-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles, according to his agent, Joel Segal.

Hmmm. This is going to be a big distraction.

Why would the Eagles sign him? I don't know. He hasn't played in a couple of years and they have McNabb. Crazy.

If Vick gets in front of McNabb, that would be a travesty, and I don't say that just because we have the same Alma Mater.

On the signing of Vick:
“We take great pride in building a high-character team. This is extremely counterintuitive."
Jeffry Lurie, Eagles Team Owner

Gruden debuts in TV booth Thursday (Arizona at Pittsburg)...can't wait.

"Last May, when former Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Jon Gruden was added to the broadcast booth for ESPN’s “Monday Night Football,” the network never asked him to audition. “Are you kidding?” said Norby Williamson, ESPN’s vice president of programming. “He’s going to be great."

Bucs pre-season debut tonight at 8 in Tennessee.

<<<<< Jets tickets for sale in the ads window this morning? Good luck to them on that.

It’s Kornheiser, pronounced Tool.  tool

I thought John Lynch had it going on doing the Bucs game last night, except it looked like he had a little Grecian for Men business going on too.

And yet another year has gone by and Byron Leftwich still looks 17.

Good God! My thoughts exactly.

USF Bulls launch September 5 against Wofford Terriers (Division 6 triple-z). The balance of their (Wofford's) season is junior high school teams and college intramural.

http://www.wofford.edu/

Wofford..."Quintesential Liberal Arts Education"...wtf.

That reminds me of Norfolk All-Woman's Liberal Arts College in Washington, D.C. (not sure why there instead of Virginia). Played our girls in volleyball back in the late 70's. Catholic School...actually quite conservative.

Their fight song went something like, "We don't smoke, we don't drink, NORFOLK! NORFOLK!"

No! Say it ain’t so. After the Jet’s Fiasco? No way!

In his Monday-Morning-Quarterback article today, Jay Glazer (of Fox News) is absolutely “certain” Brett Favre will be joining the Vikings in the next couple weeks.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP)—Syracuse has agreed to play three home games against Notre Dame and Southern California over the next seven years in the new stadium at the Meadowlands. Two people with knowledge of the agreement, speaking on condition of anonymity because the official announcement has not been made, said the Orange will face USC in 2012 and Notre Dame in 2014 and 2016.

Perhaps by 2012, SU will be able to put a freaking team on the field.   Angry

Apparently it's so...

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) -- Brett Favre is on his way to Minnesota to meet with the Vikings. Coach Brad Childress confirmed in an e-mail to The Associated Press Tuesday morning that the veteran quarterback was traveling from Mississippi to meet with the team. Asked if the plan was to sign Favre on Tuesday, Childress replied: "In a perfect world."

Enough already. The dude needs to hang it up or at least be consistent about staying or retiring.

Apparently, the trip to Minnesota was more than for discussion. He was suited and practicing with the Vikes yesterday afternoon.

Perhaps he needed the $$ to buy a new freaking hat!

Now those clowns on MNF can tell us how great he is every 5 minutes when he airs out those interceptions. Having said that, I look forward to seeing him play. Football just a little bit more exciting with Farv, uh I mean Favre.

"I really think the whole Brett Favre saga of retiring, unretiring," Fran Tarkenton said on NFL Radio, "it's a circus. It's an absolute circus, and it takes away from all the other things that are going on with the Vikings, with the NFL. We're getting ready for football season and this is a circus and I just have no interest in it."

"First of all, this isn't a comeback because Brett Favre didn't go anywhere, other than Mississippi. Secondly, you aren't sick of Brett Favre. Honest, you're not. You're sick of the coverage of Brett Favre." Jeff Miller

I wonder if the Glazers gave him a look.

Plaxico to do two. What a tremendous waste of talent. I know he's got a history of dumbass stuff off the field, but I think it's mostly small stuff like that run-in with the NY Brownie. Two years on a weapons charge and shooting oneself in the process? I guess the bullet could have hit an innocent bystander.

NEW YORK (AP)—Facing the prospect of spending at least 3 1/2 years behind bars, one-time Super Bowl star Plaxico Burress(notes) on Thursday accepted a plea bargain with a two-year prison sentence for accidentally shooting himself in the thigh at a Manhattan nightclub. The former New York Giants wide receiver pleaded guilty to one count of attempted criminal possession of a weapon, a lesser charge than he had faced. He will be sentenced Sept. 22, and lawyer Benjamin Brafman said he expects Burress to begin serving his sentence immediately after.

Is the NFL this much of a bunch of money grubbing boobs to approve and license this, or what?

Headline: The Michael Vick dog jersey makes your dog a very forgiving dog.

Yahoo Sports: The NFL proudly presents to you a very unique opportunity to dress your dog in a shirt that says, "I am the most kindhearted and forgiving dog in the entire history of dogs." Make that statement and more with this handsome new Philadelphia Eagles dog jersey.

It's a custom order setup so you'd have to have a twisted sense of humor to order one, like me. Then again, I don't have a dog.

FSU looks to have a fairly tough schedule.

CBS Sports predicts USF over FSU on September 26 (in Tallahassee). Then USF over Miami on November 28. Then West Virginia over USF on October 30, plus some other interesting predictions.

http://www.cbssports.com/mcc/messages/chrono/14958744

Nope, I don't think so. I see FSU and Miami over USF, then USF over SU, Connecticut, Rutgers and WV for 9-3, compared to CBS's 7-5, pre Bowl.

Loss to Syracuse and Connecticut...come on CBS!

Rutgers? Rutgers is not the better team, this year or last. IMHO Gregg Schiano completely “out coached” Levitt last year and humiliated him on national tv, then he (Levitt) had the infamous temper-tantrum on the sideline. Coach Levitt better not let that happen again (i.e. get out coached like that), and I’m betting he won’t. He can have all the tantrums he wants.

West Virginia? Well, that’s a tossup. The way it’s working so far since USF joined the Big East is USF and WV are trading wins every year. It’s USF’s turn in 2009.
