I'm due for an oil change. I'm just wondering how long you guys go in between oil changes on your bikes.

I also use full synthetic (Mobil1 V-Twin 20-50) for the longer interval of 5,000 miles, which is the manufacturer recommendation. In my case, I’ve got an air/oil cooled, dry sump Harley V-Twin so the oil is a big part of cooling. It also has a big (ugly) but effective oil cooler that kicks in at some temp (I’d need to go look at the manual for when). Personally, I believe these synthetic oils have a longer life, but in my case I’m more keen to keep an eye on the oil level for the cooling rather than the worry about the interval (I just keep with the mfg recommendation on changes). Being dry sump, I’ve got a convenient little dipstick in the oil reservoir under my right thigh, so I just reach down and take a peek each time I fuel up. I probably blast through a quart every 2,500 miles but I dribble it in over the change interval to make sure I keep the level up.

I change it when I run out of used oil to throw on my campfire.
